SEE THROUGH THE MUNDANE
PHOTO SERIES

The ‘Seen Through the Mundane’ is a series of images that captures the usually invisible and mundane aspects of everyday life into our consciousness. Inspired by the work of Michel de Certeau the series uses the humility of basic home objects to inspire and bring awareness to these mundane objects. Reconceptualising the word “home” through displacement and transformation throughout the perception of beauty and displeasing.

Theorist Daniel Miller assesses the humility of things and the low-level awareness

around objects and the importance it holds. Miller quotes “The surprising conclusion is that objects are important, not because they are evident and physically constrain or enable, but quite the opposite. It is often precisely because we do not see them” (Miller, 2009). Exploring this term through the development of a series of images will draw a powerful consciousness to the object bringing a sense of humility.

The series of images will encapsulate the beauty of the mundane objects throughout a house environment, drawing on certain placed objects around a house and certain items of which makes up a home. There is joy in the small things and discovering the beauty in the unexpected.
